Hreflang

Hreflang tags signal the language and regional targeting of alternate versions of a web page to search engines, preventing duplicate content issues.

Also available: Auf Deutsch

The hreflang attribute is an HTML attribute used to tell search engines about the language and geographical targeting of a specific page. It's crucial for websites that serve content in multiple languages or target different regions with similar content, as it helps search engines deliver the correct version of a page to users based on their language and location.

Without proper hreflang implementation, search engines might view different language versions of the same content as duplicate content, potentially harming your search rankings. By using hreflang, you explicitly tell search engines that these pages are intentional variations, not duplicates.

For example, if you have a product page for a t-shirt available in English for the US and German for Germany, you would use hreflang="en-US" and hreflang="de-DE" respectively. This ensures that a user searching from Germany sees the German version, while a user from the US sees the English version, improving user experience and SEO.
